Feb, 2014 - Standards for Connected Cars
Bill Hampton from AutoBeat interviews Jack Pokrzywa, Director of Global Ground Vehicle Standards at SAE International. Mr. Pokrzywa discusses how cars are no longer stand-alone moving objects. They are connected to other vehicles (V2V), the infrastructure (V2I), portable devices, and the electric grid. These vehicle communications provide infinite opportunities to improve public safety through the application of advanced technologies such as collision avoidance and intelligent speed adaption. The technology for connected cars is available today and already being tested. Regulations and standards governing how vehicle connectivity will work are under development and the implementation of autonomous vehicle technologies will come in phases. SAE International is deeply involved in developing standards for this new technology. But Jack Pokrzywa, Director of Global Ground Vehicle Standards, notes that the next step is government rulemaking to establish which aspects of connectivity will be regulated.

Jan, 2014 - Car Tech 101: Three layers of autonomous driving
c|net gives a good introduction in the three of the main aspects of autonomous driving: V2E (where the controls in the car allow it to drive itself), V2V where the cars communicate with each other and V2I where cars communicate with infrastructure (like stop lights).  Contains some interesting footage from the Consumer Electronics Show show how some of these technologies will actually work.

Jan, 2014 - Audi Keynote at 2014 International CES
Prof. Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management of Audi AG, and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the board of management of Audi AG for technical development, deliver the “Tech Titans” keynote address on Monday evening at the 2014 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.

A very distinguished panel hosted by VLAB at Stanford University discussing driverless transportation.

May, 2012Chris Gerdes: The future race car — 150mph, and no driver
Autonomous cars are coming — and they’re going to drive better than you. Chris Gerdes reveals how he and his team at Stanford are developing robotic race cars that can drive at 150 mph while avoiding every possible accident. And yet, in studying the brainwaves of professional racing drivers, Gerdes says he has gained a new appreciation for the instincts of professional drivers.

May, 2012 - Self-Driving Car Test: Steve Mahan
Google announced their self-driving car project in 2010 to make driving safer, more enjoyable, and more efficient. Having safely completed over 200,000 miles of computer-led driving, they wanted to share one of their favorite moments. Here’s Steve, who joined for a special drive on a carefully programmed route to experience being behind the wheel in a whole new way. It is a promising look at what autonomous technology may one day deliver if rigorous technology and safety standards can be met.

Mar, 2011Sebastian Thrun: Google’s driverless car
Sebastian Thrun helped build Google’s amazing driverless car, powered by a very personal quest to save lives and reduce traffic accidents. Jawdropping video shows the DARPA Challenge-winning car motoring through busy city traffic with no one behind the wheel, and dramatic test drive footage from TED2011 demonstrates how fast the thing can really go.

Mar, 2009 - The Great Robot Race
A PBS Special on the DARPA Grand Challenge narrated by John Lithgow.  The DARPA challenges in many ways launched the Driverless Transportation industry and moved the technology ahead in a tremendous way.
